Male Breast Reduction
Gynecomastia is a condition where a male has enlarged breasts caused by excess fat, excess breast tissue, or both. This condition is thought to be hereditary, or caused by obesity, diet, aging or by certain drugs or medical problems. Although rarely talked about, it is a fairly common problem and it can occur in one breast or both. The condition is relatively common in adolescent
boys but symptoms dissappear over time. For some males the condition does not dissappear leaving them conscious about their chest well into adulthood.
For those males that have the condition from obesity loosing weight might correct the condition.
For others male breast reduction surgery is an option.
The aim of male breast reduction surgery is to reduce the size of the breasts to a more natural size and contour. The procedure is performed using a combination of liposuction and surgical excision of breast tissue. At times, no excision is required and the procedure is done using liposuction only.
In severe cases of gynecomastia, the weight of excess breast tissue may have caused the breasts to sag and stretched the areola (the dark skin surrounding the nipple). In these cases the position and size of the areola can be surgically improved and excess skin may be reduced.
Male breast reduction surgery has a high success rate and patients feel much less conscious about their chest after the surgery.
